The Southern California Permanente Medical Group is seeking a BC/BE Pediatric Intensivist for a per-diem position at Kaiser Permanente, Fontana Medical Center. Preference will be given to candidates with strong clinical skills and post-fellowship work experience in a multidisciplinary PICU.
Kaiser Permanente Pediatric Care is a regionalized comprehensive care model serving over 4.5 million Kaiser Permanente members (about 1 million in the pediatric age group) in Southern California. In this model, PICU services are provided at 3 tertiary medical centers in Los Angeles, Downey and Fontana.
The selected candidate would support six other intensivists providing 24/7 in-house coverage for a 10-bed multidisciplinary PICU in Fontana, CA, a suburb of Los Angeles in San Bernardino County. Work hours would include days, nights, weekends and holidays as needed. The position requires strong clinical and interpersonal skills. In addition to clinical care in the PICU, the group also provides procedural sedation, coordinates and supervises transport of critically ill children to the PICU from across the region, and provides telemedicine support to referring Kaiser Permanente Emergency Departments. The PICU has about 600 admissions per year as well as a growing sedation service with over 1100 elective sedations per year. The PICU admits both medical (~85%) and surgical (~ 15%) patients including postoperative neurosurgery, pediatric surgery, ENT, and orthopedic patients.
Subspecialty support within KPPC is provided by pediatric specialists in neurosurgery, surgery, anesthesiology, cardiology, pulmonology, endocrinology, hematology-oncology, gastroenterology, neurology, infectious disease, nephrology, orthopedics, OMFS, ophthalmology, urology, plastic surgery, interventional radiology, allergy, and rheumatology. Patients requiring open-heart surgery, ECMO or solid organ transplantation are referred out.
Minimum Qualifications:
* M.D./D.O. degree. * Successful completion of an ACGME accredited Pediatric residency and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship.
* Prefer post-fellowship clinical work experience in a multidisciplinary PICU
* Eligible to obtain a California State Medical License
* Current PALS certification.
