SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the general guidance of the Advanced Heart Failure Program Manager, the VAD (durable mechanical circulatory support/dMCS) Educator is primarily responsible for the planning, design and execution of all educational efforts related to the care of the dMCS patient within the hospital and community setting. The VAD (dMCS) Educator will follow established clinical practice guidelines and hospital policy in addition to adult learning principles to deliver education that fulfills The Joint commission VAD (dMCS) requirements. The VAD (dMCS) Educator will maintain knowledge related to the standard of care for heart failure treatment and advanced therapies which includes, VADs (dMCS) and heart transplantation.
VAD (dMCS) Educator duties include, but are not limited to, coordination of staff education related to initial VAD (dMCS) training, annual VAD (dMCS) training and hands on VAD (dMCS) training for all departments/units within the organization where dMCS patients are cared for. VAD (dMCS) training will be tailored to the individual roles of staff within those departments/units based on pertinent information to assist in their delivery of care for the VAD (dMCS) patient. The VAD (dMCS) Educator will maintain and update annual competencies based on regulatory standards. The VAD (dMCS) Educator will establish relationships in the community and coordinate VAD (dMCS) education for community agencies and outpatient areas which includes, but is not limited to, Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF), Long Term Acute Care Hospitals (LTACH), Rehab Programs, Homecare Agencies, Hospice, Dialysis Centers and Emergency Responders.Â
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
Bachelor's degree in Nursing
Currently licensed to practice as a registered nurse by the State of employment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
BLS, ACLS preferred
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Requires excellent communication and organizational skillsÂ
Must be able to function independently within the limits of the positionÂ
Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a teamÂ
Experience working as an EducatorÂ
Experience working with MCS devices or cardiology patientsÂ
