The Geriatric Medicine program at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is seeking a full time Geriatrician to join our dynamic interdisciplinary team including 2 physicians, 2 nurse practitioners, 1 social worker, coordinator and project manager. Our comprehensive, expert team provides specialty care to older adults throughout the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus (IFMC). We are a center of Excellence for HELP (Hospital Elder Life program) and an exemplar site for NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Health system Elders). We are friends of the Age Friendly health system initiative.

We are seeking a Geriatric fellowship trained and board eligible/ certified physician to join us. This position will provide clinical expertise and mentorship within our team, foster collaborative relationships with other team members across other hospital departments to enhance and inform excellence in geriatric care. We are looking for a team member who thrives in an inter-professional environment, open to flexibility and adaptability as the service evolves to meet the unique needs of our aging population.

Duties include

1) participation in daily IDT to optimize clinical integration, efficiency, and effectiveness of service delivery, 2) represent Geriatrics in at least one campus initiative/ committee, 3) scholarly activity including assistance with educational oversight of rotating learners, 4) collaboration in quality initiatives, 5) collaborate with hospital and community partners to insure appropriate care and transitions and 6) development and maintenance of partnerships in strategic arenas throughout the campus 7) participate in the call schedule.

The Geriatric Medicine service aims to improve patient safety, quality and cost by providing effective, efficient care that is patient and family centered. We experienced 20% growth in patient volumes in the past year and hope to continue that trend as we are better staffed to meet the needs of the aging population in the community.

Strengths of the program Include: Critical support from institutional leadership based upon repeated demonstration of quality and financial outcomes, highly motivated and high functioning collaborative IDT, respect and rapport of palliative care across the hospital community, routine collection of operational data, strong grants department to assist with grant funding opportunities.

The Geriatric Medicine program is a part of the Medicine Service line for Inova. Faculty academic appointment with Virginia Commonwealth University Virginia (soon to be University of Virginia) is available. Qualifications include fellowship training and board certified or board eligibility in Geriatric Medicine.
