The Director of Bioethics provides system-wide interdisciplinary leadership, clinical practice, and staff development pertaining to healthcare ethics and patient rights. The director utilizes the concept of participative management and oversees, plan, innovate, coordinate, direct & evaluate bioethics services to ensure that services are provided in a manner that exemplifies the philosophy of the Bioethics Program & the service excellence ideals of Baptist Health South Florida, always maintaining the confidentiality of patient/employee information. The director demonstrates fiscal responsibility through development & maintenance of operational & capital budgets with allocation of available resources to promote efficient, cost effective, safe and compassionate patient care services. Shared decision-making is promoted by providing input from the staff into executive level decisions & by keeping staff informed of executive level activities. The BHMG Medical Director of Palliative Care & Bioethics will oversee the daily functions of Bioethics Program Director in fulfillment of her/his job responsibilities as specified in this job description.
Registered Nurse, Healthcare Ethics Consultant –Certified (HEC-C), or Master’s Degree in Bioethics required. 4 years of experience required. A Masters Degree or higher in the discipline of Nursing, Education and experience in dealing with death and dying, grief, loss and bereavement and medical ethics. Clinical maturity and expertise. Excellent interpersonal skills, team building skills, collaboration, and negotiation skills. Effective time management; capable of priority setting. Effective oral and written communication skills. Three or more years of acute care experience. Advanced post-graduate education in clinical specialty. Documentation of continuing education for Directors including healthcare ethics. Maintains confidentiality of patients and staff and complies with professional ethics.
